Chapter 1: The Quiet Before the Storm
The sun peeked through the
curtains of a small, cozy house nestled on the edge of a quiet neighborhood.
Inside, the air was filled with the scent of fresh bread and the faint hum of
morning activity. Liam lay in his bed, eyes half-open, listening to the gentle
sounds of his home waking up.
John was ten years old, with
messy black hair that often fell into his bright, curious grey eyes. His room
was cluttered with drawings, books, and toys — a reflection of his lively
imagination and gentle spirit. Every drawing on his walls told a story: a brave
knight battling dragons, a distant castle, dream high, work hard, a family of
animals and many more. Art was his refuge, a way to escape the ordinary and
breathe life into his dreams.
His parents, Daniel and Emily,
were the center of his world. They were kind and warm, always encouraging John
to explore his talents and be himself. His father, a carpenter, often built
little wooden models with him, while his mother, a teacher, read stories and
helped him with his homework. Their laugh echoed through the house, filling
every corner of the house with warmth.
Today was a special day — John’s
eighth birthday. His parents had planned a small celebration, just family and a
few friends. They had decorated the house with balloons and streamers, and John’s
face lit up with excitement as he imagined the surprises awaiting him.
After breakfast, John sat at the
kitchen table, eagerly tearing and eating into a chocolate cake his mother had
baked. His parents watched him with smiles; their eyes filled with love.
“Make a wish, sweetheart,” Emily
whispered, ruffling his black curly hair.
John closed his eyes tightly,
wished silently, then blew out the candles. The room erupted in applause and
laughter as everyone shared in his joy.
Later that afternoon, John played
outside with his best friend, Joseph, a boy with a mischievous grin and an
adventurous spirit. They climbed trees, chased butterflies, and built forts out
of old sheets and wooden pallets. The day was perfect, an ordinary day filled
with simple happiness.
As evening fell, John sat on the
porch, gazing at the stars. His parents joined him, wrapping him in a warm
blanket.
“John,” Daniel said softly, “no
matter what happens, always remember that you are loved. And your dreams are
your wings. Never stop dreaming.”
John nodded, clutching his
favorite stuffed animal, a small bear named Ben. He didn’t fully understand the
weight of those words yet, but he felt safe and loved in that moment.
The night settled peacefully over
their home, the stars shining brightly above. Little did John know that this
serene, joyful day was about to change forever.
